Big Hair and a Book

This post is an essay that I wrote for my junior year of high school/freshman year of college English class. It’s a personal literacy essay where I discuss my experience with books. I hope you like it.  Throughout my entire life, including now, people always recognize me by my hair. Curly, brown,  and perpetually frizzy hair. My trademark. Although hair is important to who I am, I think books will  forever be the biggest part of me.            According to my mother, I started reading when I was 3, I can’t corroborate that since I don’t  remember being 3. In fact, I don’t remember much of my childhood. But I remember the books I read.  There were 3 extremely important books that have shaped my entire life, or at least my life until now,  but I can almost guarantee that they will always be important to me. These books represent different  types of reading, or different reasons you might read.   The first type is reading for knowledge, represented by the Egyptology book. As a child I wa

Advice For Incoming Freshmen

Hello hello! Today I will share my friends and my best advice for incoming high school freshmen. Before we begin, please read my  disclaimer policy  and my  privacy policy .  Do not skip class. Ask yourself why you want to skip class. Is it really worth damaging your education? If it's because you hate the teacher/students there, talk to your counselor. If it's because someone is telling you to, don't do it and cut that person off. They do not have your best interests in mind.  Write down your class schedule and put it on your lock screen. You will totally get lost or be late on your first day, but I did not thanks to this. Get a map of your school and class schedule, write down how you get there, and add your lunchtime. Make sure you include room numbers.  Don't be embarrassed to ask for help. If you need help with getting places, homework, classwork, studying, etc. please ask for it. If you need help you need it, there's absolutely no shame in asking for it. You m

Froggy Water Bottle Holder

Hello! How are you? I hope you're doing well.  Today I'll share a crochet pattern for a froggy water bottle holder. I made this pattern for my HydroJug (not sponsored, but it'd be cool if it was), so you may need to adjust certain parts so that it can fit your water bottle. But, before we begin, please read my  disclaimer policy  and  privacy policy .  Materials: 5mm hook, weight 4 yarn in green (I used dark green), white, black (you can also use safety eyes that people use on amigurumi instead), yellow or light green yarn, 1 stitch marker, and scissors.  Bottom: make this the circumference of the widest part of your water bottle, use green yarn.  Row 1: magic circle, chain 1, 8 single crochet in magic circle, slip stitch into first single crochet, close magic circle, and insert stitch marker into last single crochet. (8)  Row 2: Increase in every stitch (2 sc in every stitch), move stitch marker. (16) Row 3: (sc, inc) 8 times, move stitch marker. (24)  Row 4: (inc, sc, sc

Crochet Ear Band

Hello there! I’m Willow. How are you? I hope you’re well.  Before we begin, please read my  disclaimer policy  and my  privacy policy  .  Today I will share a pattern for a crochet ear band. Before we start, a few notes.  Notes : 1. Mine accidentally increased in size as I made it, so I highly suggest you count your stitches after every row to ensure that the size of your ear band doesn’t change. 2. If yours does end up increasing in size like mine, that’s ok! It just means that it can double as a visor, too!  Materials : since this pattern isn’t stitch-specific (meaning it doesn’t tell you to do a specific stitch number besides turning chains), you can use any yarn and hook you like. I used weight 3 yarn and a 3.0mm hook. You’ll also need something to weave your ends in, so either a tapestry needle, or you can just use your hook if you like, and some scissors   Row 1 : make a chain long enough to fit snugly around your (or whoever the ear band is for) head.  Row 2 : chain 3, double c

Welcome to the Blog!

Hello there! I'm Willow V., the author of A Word From Willow, and this is my first post!  Before you continue reading, please read my  Privacy Policy  and my  Disclosure Policy  .  Who is Willow V.?  Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. I'm still in school and trying to figure that out, but I can tell you that I'm interested in a LOT of things. Forensic psychology, music, history, crocheting, and classic literature, to name a few. I also enjoy researching things and writing about my finds, that's probably one of the reasons I do so well in science and English classes. I play the violin, sew, crochet, and write, and I used to do ballet for a considerable part of my life.  What is A Word From Willow about?  A Word From Willow is a blog I will use to express my interests and improve my writing skills. There will be a variety of topics including food, crocheting, frogs, books, and shopping.  Who is A Word From Willow for?  My target audiences are teenagers, crafters, and an
