How Does Misogynoir Effect Black Women?

Hello! This is yet again another assignment that I did for an English class. It’s one of my proudest works and I hope you enjoy it!    Abstract The main topic of this paper is misogynoir, and how it effects Black women and feminine presenting people. We’ll be looking at a series of personal experiences, studies, and definitions to explore this topic. There will be sections that focus on misogynoir in school, workplaces, protesting, and childbirth. I felt that these were some of the most important and/or interesting presentations of misogynoir. There will also be some ways you can help combat misogynoir and be of support to the Black feminine community. Keywords : misogynoir, racism, intersectionality, misogyny, feminism, Black women, obstetric racism, feminine presenting         What is Misogynoir?                First and foremost; what is misogynoir? I would define misogynoir ...

My Experience With Covid

Hi hello yes I know this post is a day late. I have a VERY good excuse. Yesterday was my first day back at school after a week and a half of having covid and I came back to an essay and a presentation. The essay's due this Friday too. Thankfully I have extenuating circumstances (covid).

So, why am I doing this post? Honestly, I'm just hoping that somewhere, someone just tested positive for covid or someone that they love did and they're just worried about what's to come. Like I was. I just hope this can provide some sort of comfort for whoever reads this. Remember, this is not medical advice, in fact, it's not any type of advice. This post it just a way for me to talk about my experience with covid.

I tested positive on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, like the day before. Thankfully I was out of school for the rest of the week. At first, I felt super weak. My throat and stomach were hurting and I felt like I was going to pass out. You know when you stand up too fast or haven't eaten for a while and your head has a heartbeat and everything feels dizzy? Yeah, that's how I felt. I also had a toothache from getting my braces tightened the day before.

The second day, I felt a lot better. Just a really stuffy nose and a nice Thanksgiving dinner. Third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eight, ninth, and tenth were the same as the second. The 11th day was when it all went wrong. I guess since I'm in the last stretch all the mucus decided to come up. My throat was hurting HORRIBLY and all my sinuses were chock full of mucus. Just straight snot. Actually still dealing with it now. A friend literally asked me in first period if I was losing my voice. My throat's freaking full of snot. But I'm totally ok. I just need to eat to keep my energy, wear my mask, blow my nose periodically, and cough up snot so I can breathe.

I'm not completely over dealing with this, but I will be soon (hopefully). For now, that'll be the end of this post. I'm pretty sure nothing else will happen, but if something does I'll come back and update y'all.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed it! Please come back next month for more words from Willow!

“Passing” by Nella Larsen: An Analysis

“Passing” by Nella Larsen: An Analysis by Willow V.  Hello! This is an assignment that I did for my Harlem Renaissance American Literature class. This essay is my own original work.            In Nella Larsen’s “Passing” a Black woman named Irene Redfield, who is usually seen as “an Italian, a Spaniard, a Mexican, or a gipsy. Never, when she was alone, had they even remotely seemed to suspect that she was a Negro” (Larsen), finds out that her childhood friend, Clare Kendry, has been passing as White after seeing her in Chicago for the first time in 12 years. There are 3 sections of the novella; Encounter, Re-Encounter, and Finale. The first section, Encounter, includes the event in Chicago mentioned above, along with Irene being invited to visit Clare at her hotel in Chicago where Clare Kendry and her extremely racist husband, John Bellew. Mr. Bellew has absolutely no idea that Clare isn’t actually White, and calls her “Nig” because “When we wer...

Black Swan: A Psychological Analysis

Hello! This is another original work that I did for one of my past classes. Our teacher had given us an assignment of watching a movie and psychologically evaluating one of its characters, I chose the movie “Black Swan”. Please do not copy this work or claim that any of it is yours. I’ve cited all of my references for this essay in the last section. I would also like to say that some of the content in this post may be triggering for some people, there are mentions of sex, suicide, death, eating disorders, and multiple other mental illnesses. I suggest you look up the trigger warnings for this movie to see if you would still like to read this essay. Remember to take care of yourself and try not to put yourself into triggering situations if you can. I hope you enjoy this essay!  Black Swan: A Psychological Analysis Introduction In Darren Aronofonsky’s “Black Swan”, a New York ballerina named Nina Sawyer goes through a series of trials and tribulations related to her mental hea...

I DID AN INTERNSHIP AT FRED HUTCH!!!!!!!!

Ok, I have a word limit for this so I'll just give you guys a bit of background info on what this is then I'll get into the post because this post is actually an assignment for the internship.  1.  This  is Fred Hutch  2.  This  is the internship I did  So I  have a few favorite things from this internship, ranging from the scenery to the labs. (Mostly the labs) But the thing I loved the most, were the tours. Seeing the labs and meeting people who work there and what they do is fantastic.  This is from the first tour, a picture of the view from the sky bridge. Yes, a skybridge!  Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of labs when we did tours, but I did get pictures from the labs that we did.  This is from a PCR lab. PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction. It essentially makes a bunch of copies for a specific gene. Copies are made by putting DNA into a thermocycler. Changes in temperature can change the bonds of the DNA, f...
