Neuroscience & Me

Hello! This is my final project for my Neuroscience class. This is all my own work so please don’t copy it. Some of the links and works cited may not work because some are link that came from the Canvas site for my class.  Neuroscience & Me Willow V.                           My interest in psychology began when I discovered a show in sixth grade that I’m now obsessed with, “Criminal Minds.” At first, I was mostly interested in criminal and forensic psychology, so I started taking psychology classes and doing research to prepare myself for what I thought I was going to be, a behavioral analyst for the FBI. As I started my journey, I discovered that I actually really enjoy doing research and authoring reports, so now my dream career is to be a psychological researcher. I’m honestly interested in all aspects of psychology, but I want to focus on studying under-represented popu...

Washington Journalism and Media Conference: A Photo Collection

This past July, I got the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University. Due to the plethora of pictures that I took while there (we had to document our experience to get college credit), I’ll only be writing a little about what happened there. I may do another post detailing my experience, but I’m more excited about sharing the pictures I took.

These are the pictures I got from day 1, we didn’t do much that day. We just played in the game room (called “The Hub”) , took a tour of the college, and had dinner, where we heard the first of MANY speakers.

This is day 2, we toured some national monuments and went to planet word.

I didn’t get many pictures on day 3, but we went to the National Press Club and played a very intense game of Color Group Feud.

I didn’t get any pictures on day 4, but I got a BUNCH on day 5. We toured the National Mall that day and above are my pictures from the African American History Museum. Below are my pictures from the Museum of Natural History.

When we got back to George Mason after the National Mall, we had a full 3 course dinner and a gala, which I didn’t get any pictures of because I was too busy dancing.

Well, that’s all for today! I’ll be posting some more pictures and videos on my Pinterest, @awordfromwillow. All of these pictures aren’t even half of what we did at WJMC, so let me know if you want me to do a more detailed post about my trip. If you liked this post, I’d tell you to subscribe here, but I honestly don’t use that emailing list anymore, so it’d be better for you to follow my Pinterest for more Words from Willow! <3

I DID AN INTERNSHIP AT FRED HUTCH!!!!!!!!

Ok, I have a word limit for this so I'll just give you guys a bit of background info on what this is then I'll get into the post because this post is actually an assignment for the internship.  1.  This  is Fred Hutch  2.  This  is the internship I did  So I  have a few favorite things from this internship, ranging from the scenery to the labs. (Mostly the labs) But the thing I loved the most, were the tours. Seeing the labs and meeting people who work there and what they do is fantastic.  This is from the first tour, a picture of the view from the sky bridge. Yes, a skybridge!  Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of labs when we did tours, but I did get pictures from the labs that we did.  This is from a PCR lab. PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction. It essentially makes a bunch of copies for a specific gene. Copies are made by putting DNA into a thermocycler. Changes in temperature can change the bonds of the DNA, f...

I'm still in school and trying to figure that out, but I can tell you that I'm interested in a LOT of things. Forensic psychology, music, history, crocheting, and classic literature, to name a few. I also enjoy researching things and writing about my finds, that's probably one of the reasons I do so well in science and English classes. I play the violin, sew, crochet, and write, and I used to do ballet for a considerable part of my life.  What is A Word From Willow about?  A Word From Willow is a blog I will use to express my interests and improve my writing skills. There will be a variety of topics including food, crocheting, frogs, books, and shopping.  Who is A Word From Willow for?  My target audienc...

New Years Resolution Inspo

Hello! Happy New Year (if you celebrate)!  Today I'll be sharing some New Years' resolution ideas. Maybe you're out of ideas, think you're doing alright (good for you!), or perhaps you're like me and did not think about resolutions at all and now people are asking you about them and you need to come up with something.  1. Doing more of what you love!  This one's pretty obvious, but I think that you can never spend too much time doing the things you love. Everyone needs things that make them happy, whether it's baking, writing, or dancing.  2. Moving more often  When I say "moving" I mean exercising, but not to change how you look. You should work out for health, better joints, and to be strong in my opinion.  3. Reading more  This has been one of my eternal goals since I knew what goals were. But it's even more important now since we live in such a tech-savvy world. We need to disconnect from the wires, and what better way to do that than to st...
