Welcome (back) to the Blog: 4 Years Later

Hi guys! Happy blogaversary. It's been a while I know, I haven't posted since February. A LOT has happened in my life since I began this blog exactly 4 years ago. I've also changed a lot as a person. So for this post, I'll be welcoming you all back to the blog, letting you know why I ghosted the blog, and welcoming myself back into posting here.  So Where'd You Go?  When I started this blog I was a freshman in high school, and I just finished my freshman year of college. And I'm graduating 2 years early next year. That should explain why I haven't been posting as much here, but if it doesn't, I have more.  I have been extraordinarily busy with a bunch of stuff inside and outside of school. Volunteering, trying to upkeep my mental and physical health, dealing with the transition of living in a new state for high school, and then living alone in a different section of the same state for college, all while essentially failing at socializing.  Definitely hav...

Definitely have not been failing at school, though. I got into the University of Washington's Interdisciplinary Honors Program and have been on the Dean's List every quarter this year. So yeah I've been working hard at that. I've barely had time for anything besides school, homework, and recovering from both. If you have autism, you know that simple things like school, hygiene, socializing, etc. can take so much energy out of you and that the recovery for it can take up sooooooooooooo much valuable time that can make you look super lazy to those that don't understand.

What Changed? The Theme Looks Different.

Yeah I've grown quite a bit and the pink sparkly aesthetic of the pictures on this blog are no longer what I want. I'm not saying that I've matured, because everyone who knows me knows that I have not, I'm just saying I'm not digging it. I started this blog at quite a pivotal time in my life, and my social media and this blog reflected it at that time, but it's time for a change. I'll keep the old cover photos for old times sake, but the new covers will look more cohesive and simple.

Who Is Willow V.?

Like I said when I first introduced myself, I'm not entirely sure, but I do have a better idea now. The problem is that identities change, we're always evolving based on our experiences, and that's not even a problem, just the natural way of life.

Who I am at this moment, is a published author of my own poetry book, which you can get here. I am also the author of this blog, obviously. I am a major reader, who hasn't had much time to read because of school. I am an avid documentary enjoyer, which is a hobby I like to pair with one of my others, crocheting. I am an absolute music nerd, I regularly get those notifications telling me to turn my volume down. I like shopping, perfumes, plushies, lipgloss, bamboo hoop earrings, and food. Lots of food. And boba! That list and this blog are just small chunks of the many things that make up me.

What Is A Word From Willow About?

This blog isn't truly about anything. I'll be posting whatever I please, whenever I want. It could truly be whatever, so be prepared for me to post a myriad of things.

Who Is A Word From Willow For?

My point from the original Welcome to the Blog! post still stands, "My target audiences are teenagers, crafters, and anyone who will read about my interests, but everyone is welcome. A Word From Willow is a safe space for everyone of all ages, genders, religions, sexualities, races, and abilities." But most importantly, this blog is for me.

Why A Word From Willow

Because my name is Willow and I have words to share.

Why Did I Make A Blog?

Originally, to make money but that didn't happen. This blog is now a place for me to preserve past essays I've written for school and to get my thoughts out. My thoughts are very diverse, so like I said before, be prepared for me to post a myriad of things.

Can We Expect More Words From Willow?

Eventually, yes. I'm still going to be busy, but I will try my best to post on here whenever I can. I have no idea when that will be, but you can follow my Instagram and/or Pinterest to keep up with me, both of which are @awordfromwillow.

I'd like to thank you all for sticking with me, even though there's not many of us. If you'd like, please stay tuned for more words from Willow! Thank you for 4 years!

Black History Month Read/Watchlist With Little to no Context

Hello!  Recently, I've been engaging with many documentaries and books that involve Black history and culture, and I feel that it's imperative that I use this platform that I have to share the things I've watched or read that have changed my worldview. I would like to also emphasize the fact that it doesn't need to be Black History Month for you to educate yourself and others on or appreciate Black history/culture.  Please look up trigger warnings if you do decide to read or watch anything on this list! It's good to educate yourself, and educating yourself on history is usually uncomfortable, but take care of yourself. Self care is an act of resistance! Without further ado, here is my read/watchlist recommendations for Black History Month 2026, with little to no context.  (None of this is sponsored by the way).  Books to Read  1. "N*groes with Guns" by Robert F. Williams  This book will radicalize you so much.  2. "Recitatif" by Toni Morrison  Th...

Black Swan: A Psychological Analysis

Hello! This is another original work that I did for one of my past classes. Our teacher had given us an assignment of watching a movie and psychologically evaluating one of its characters, I chose the movie “Black Swan”. Please do not copy this work or claim that any of it is yours. I’ve cited all of my references for this essay in the last section. I would also like to say that some of the content in this post may be triggering for some people, there are mentions of sex, suicide, death, eating disorders, and multiple other mental illnesses. I suggest you look up the trigger warnings for this movie to see if you would still like to read this essay. Remember to take care of yourself and try not to put yourself into triggering situations if you can. I hope you enjoy this essay!  Black Swan: A Psychological Analysis Introduction In Darren Aronofonsky’s “Black Swan”, a New York ballerina named Nina Sawyer goes through a series of trials and tribulations related to her mental hea...

“Passing” by Nella Larsen: An Analysis

“Passing” by Nella Larsen: An Analysis by Willow V.  Hello! This is an assignment that I did for my Harlem Renaissance American Literature class. This essay is my own original work.            In Nella Larsen’s “Passing” a Black woman named Irene Redfield, who is usually seen as “an Italian, a Spaniard, a Mexican, or a gipsy. Never, when she was alone, had they even remotely seemed to suspect that she was a Negro” (Larsen), finds out that her childhood friend, Clare Kendry, has been passing as White after seeing her in Chicago for the first time in 12 years. There are 3 sections of the novella; Encounter, Re-Encounter, and Finale. The first section, Encounter, includes the event in Chicago mentioned above, along with Irene being invited to visit Clare at her hotel in Chicago where Clare Kendry and her extremely racist husband, John Bellew. Mr. Bellew has absolutely no idea that Clare isn’t actually White, and calls her “Nig” because “When we wer...
